Every year, GDSA works hard to send Visual Communication Design (VCD) students to a major American city known for its design prominence. This year, though, our unending curiosity for design leads us across the pond - GDSA is going to London, England! This trip is an opportunity to broaden the perspectives of the young designers attending by connecting them with industry professionals and exposing them to real world environments. By observing how a variety of design firms, studios, or agencies operate, we open up conversations that lead to valuable advice and insight about our discipline. In addition, this is a chance for us design students to see our practice playing a role in the world at large. It not only gives us a sense of purpose, but also encourages us to pursue prospective internship and post-grad opportunities. This trip inspires and empowers us to hone our skills further and apply our unique talents during a transformative time in our profession. It cultivates a vision of where we can end up one day–at the forefront of our passion.

Why London?

London is the ideal international destination that features some parallels of what we have here at home, and some of the new. It is a major creative hub, known for its history, art, fashion, and design. It is also home to large branches of design companies that function all over the world. Some names include Pentagram, Landor, and Wolff Olins.

London will provide networking opportunities that could lead to internships and future job offers. Through international travel, we expand our worldview all the while enlivening our sense of adventure. No place is too far to reach!

How You Can Help

By supporting GDSA on this trip, you aid design students in expanding their reach in the design community–andeven more so internationally. Your contribution will help fund airfare, hotel accommodations, general travel expenses, and more. Last year’s New York City campaign exceeded its goal of 10,000 dollars. Because of this success, we wereable to stay 5 nights in a hotel, pay for city transit, and even include other fun activities like visiting the Museum of Modern Art. This year we hope to do the same and provide 6 nights in a hotel for 25 graphic designers.

Make an Impact

Oh the Places We'll See

Give $25

Being on time is the first rule of being a professional! Donating this amount allows a student to commute to and from firms around the city with a London Underground day pass.

Double Decker

Give $47

London Underground not the way to go? A designer can travel in style by taking a double decker bus, taking in all the sights and sounds of London. You would also be doubling our chances of reaching our goal with this amount!

God Save the Queen

Give $90

This contribution represents every year Queen Elizabeth II has lived.

Night at the Palace

Give $188

How many staff bedrooms are there at the Buckingham Palace? With this amount, you contribute to housing students for a night at a hotel. Soon we'll be sleeping (somewhat) like royalty!

Go Big or Go Home

Give $316

Look up, it's time to fly! Big Ben is one tall clock tower – 316 feet to be exact! This amount gives a student a wide range of opportunity during their six days in London. This could cover many of the expenses that come with lodging, meals, and city travel. With these covered, a student can focus all their energy into learning all they can from this city's creative community!
